How to prepare for your first Border Terrier?
Before you bring your first Border Terriers home, there are a few things you need to check:
- Puppy Food
- Food bowls
- Water bowls
- ID Tag
- Grooming equipment
- Dog bed
The home needs to be safe for your new puppy. To be honest, they cannot be trusted off leash and should not be released in an unfenced area at any time. In addition, lock away all the household chemicals, such as fertilizer, and sharp objects and electrical cords. Make sure the border terrier puppy cannot go to the pool.
Meet the breeder
Purchase the border terrier puppy from a registered breeder. Ask a few questions to them:
1. Does the breeder take part in conformation showing, obedience, agility, Earthdog or other dog activities?
A: A responsible breeder takes part in these kinds of activities regularly. If the answer you get from the breeder is not satisfactory, walk away.
2. Is the puppy social?
A: You will know if the puppy can mix with other animals and people.
3. What is the puppy being fed?
A: It is a good idea to feed the puppy whatever it had been fed for the last few days or months.
4. Have any of the puppies in the litter been sick?
A: If the answer is yes, were they diagnosed and treated well?
5. Does the breeder have legal registration forms?
A: A responsible breeder has all sorts of registration forms filled in perfectly.
